N.B. This site is not what some people like to call "anti-missionary".
Whether Jews who convert to Christianity (or indeed any other religion)
are theological correct or not is not the issue. My intention in
this section is to concentrate on Christian missions to the Jews as sources
of antisemitism, anti-Jewish racism and misinformation about Judaism and
Israel.
It is generally recognised that Britain's "Race Relations Act 1976" needs
reform, if only to include discrimination on religious grounds. The following
articles are intended to make a positive contribution to that ongoing debate.
Jewish Ethnic Culture
In contrast to the racism of the "Messianic/Christian Jew" Jewish ethnic
culture is non-racist. In principle, anyone can convert to Judaism and
become a Jew irrespective of "race", ethnicity or gender. According to
traditional Jewish religion and culture Jewish descent can be acquired
by either birth to a Jewish mother or by conversion to Judaism.
Jewish ethnic (i.e. tribal) culture can be defined in terms of five commonalities.
-
A common religion - Judaism
-
Common ancestors - Abraham and Sarah
-
A common language - Hebrew
-
A common land base - Israel
-
Common customs revolving around foods and festivals
